Mercurial Mother Nature, Summer Hail Storm

The Summer Storm

I had to wonder, What the "hail" is this? I listened to the crashing and banging sounds on the roof our home. The frozen ice chunks fell viciously from the sky to the ground.

I was worried about the horses, they ran into the tree line instead of seeking shelter in the barn. When they emerged, they were covered with ice, but unharmed.

This is how much ice accumulated on the ground after the storm was over.  It was just another summer day in Montana.

The breathtaking Sunsets of Montana.

The Montana Skies

Visit our Montana mountain homestead, and view the gorgeous sunsets from our front porch.  Every night, I look to the sky for the ever-changing glorious patterns of light and shadow. Take 2 minutes, a deep breath, and enjoy these color drenched skies.

Cimarron is the name of the home featured in my books, "Go West, Young Woman!" and "Stay West, Young Woman!".

If you enjoyed this video, I suggest you watch Ep: 5 "Montana Sunsets" on my YouTube channel, Nancy Quinn-Life in the Wild West.

What's growing in the greenhouse?

What's growing in the greenhouse?

I receive a lot of questions about growing vegetables, and requests to see the greenhouse. It's hard to grow anything on our mountainside homestead in Montana.  This is our best year yet, and I'm constantly learning about growing food for our table.  I hope you enjoy this little tour of our built by hand greenhouse. You may pick up an innovative idea or two that will help you grow your own vegetables and flowers.

"Come West" in the New Book Trailer!

My family's Homesteading Adventure continues….

In my new book, Stay West, Young Woman!

I hope you can enjoy our western life too, through my books , art and videos.  This has truly been an exciting new life for us all.  In fact, the other day, we had a grizzly bear near our horse corrals. I will be sharing that story in a future High Noon Tea, and have written about it in the new book as well.  Below is the book synopsis and I hope you enjoy the book trailer, I just love the music!

Have you ever had the strong desire to move across the country and experience a dramatic change of lifestyle? What would happen if you did and how well would you adjust to it?

Stay West, Young Woman! continues the true homesteading adventures from Go West, Young Woman!, the story of how an inexperienced military family makes the dramatic transition from eastern urban living to “retirement” on a rugged Montana mountainside. Continuing to face mercurial weather, unorthodox neighbors, wild animals, and the challenges of an ever expanding family of dogs and horses, they greet their days with determination and a sense of humor, as they decide their fate while living life along America’s great Continental Divide. The book can be ordered on pre-order through the publisher at this link. The Ebook should be available in a few weeks. https://www.hellgatepress.com/product/stay-west-young-woman-nancy-quinn/pre-order paperback

Spring Cleaning-the Montana Way!

Spring Cleaning

It's the time of year we look forward to all winter long, spring! It also means spring cleaning on the homestead.  You may have read about it in my book, "Go West, Young Woman!"  It's not what you're thinking- and yes, after this, I still have to clean my house...

TAPS- My Tribute to Fallen Heroes

TAPS

I know my voice isn't what it used to be, but I sing TAPS to my daughters on Memorial Day.  I think it's important they remember what the day signifies.  As a military wife, the mournful song has special meaning for me.  The sunset photos were taken on our mountain.  I think the setting sun is perfect for this song.

Easy Fresh Orange Bread Recipe

Orange Walnut bread with Orange Glaze.

If you are in the mood for orange bread/cake, try this-it's great for breakfast too. Your kitchen will be transformed into an orange grove!  This recipe was inspired by a friend who was telling me about her family’s version of this recipe.  I put a few ingredients together and came up with my own-and of course, it has an orange glaze.  Since I’m still sporting this eye patch from my injury, I decided to focus on the mixing bowl and the baking process.  The video has some fun surprises in it.

Wild Rivers of Montana

                                            Rushing Waters

Hello from Montana,

Spring has finally arrived and the thaw is under way.  The rivers are overflowing the banks and it is an experience.  If you need a little peace and beauty in your day.  Take a few moments to watch this new video, and walk along the creek bed with me, and listen to the sounds of nature.  It has such a powerful voice of its own.

A Rose for You.

High Noon Tea

I guess the old song is true, "I never promised you a rose garden", but we can sure try. In this episode of High Noon Tea we talk about Red Rose tea and the challenges of gardening on a mountain in the wild west of Montana.

A special thanks to everyone who has written me or posted about my eye injury. In time, with a little tea and some chocolate, I should be good as new.
