tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55830637793233237502024-03-04T12:21:54.382-08:00 A Western LifeWelcome to modern life in the wild west. I'm Nancy Quinn, an author and wildlife artist. I live with my family-husband, daughters, dogs, and horses, on a rural mountain in Montana. My neighbors are grizzly bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes, and a host of other wildlife. I share our experiences through my books, art, and YouTube videos, as well as a radio program. Come west with us, enjoy, animal encounters, baking, gardening, crafts, and more.Nancy Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11189710146812202682noreply@blogger.comBlogger186125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583063779323323750.post-21842500762484816312024-02-19T17:36:00.000-08:002024-02-19T17:36:39.397-08:00Wearable Art- silk scarves<p><span style="font-size: medium;">I've been dealing with disappointment for some time now because I had to close my Nancy Quinn Signature line of fashion and home goods. My original art was featured on every item- clothing, pillows, placemats, and other home products. There were issues with the manufacturer that I could not resolve, so it was a painful decision that had to be made. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">However, I'm still keeping my interest in fashion alive. When I'm not writing books or paintings on canvas, I'm hand painting silk scarves. Someday, I hope to have another opportunity to open the line again. Until then, my clients are enjoying having unique scarves and knowing each design is the only one available on the market. Their personal enjoyment keeps me encouraged and creating these beautiful pieces. Here are a few examples. I hope you enjoy them too.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> <a href="http://www.quinnwildlifeart.com" target="_blank">www.quinnwildlifeart.com</a> <a href="http://www.nancyquinnauthor.com" target="_blank">www.nancyquinnauthor.com</a></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfe2mkf3XWlkvDWRWgFAWi2LJJlV6PKFThXglhbf6weYzw7QZnxOsRZvhM7kE-3DitkAyamdPL7y_hZAlRJ-i2M6-VEHCdqX7yfRFdF6cvA6wFEB7jc9cS3Wk8Io1CYlI3oE-_GL8fCKwaVBMK0upFd1xHXLA8WN6hE5d595reITS8FMouCRxKl5lbsUo/s5030/Blue%20Smoke.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5030" data-original-width="2906" height="504" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfe2mkf3XWlkvDWRWgFAWi2LJJlV6PKFThXglhbf6weYzw7QZnxOsRZvhM7kE-3DitkAyamdPL7y_hZAlRJ-i2M6-VEHCdqX7yfRFdF6cvA6wFEB7jc9cS3Wk8Io1CYlI3oE-_GL8fCKwaVBMK0upFd1xHXLA8WN6hE5d595reITS8FMouCRxKl5lbsUo/w291-h504/Blue%20Smoke.JPG" width="291" /></a></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3xIKQY6AmkFmEpudSj2zwTInnCVjM7VJVCf_3T_-YtE3vPegoV5apaqV6NUPVFGY6ycigLYvtLsew8KDAj3VXfstPCSjT25ap6JUAezVoa7ACcgZZWJKJJXm03qaEXIFoH-ggb805aZeeqHM5xHv9Zk0Eyhd-zZ19vXJGFFld4eK2vb6vyMGqL83_yoA/s5184/IMG_9201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="3456" height="445" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3xIKQY6AmkFmEpudSj2zwTInnCVjM7VJVCf_3T_-YtE3vPegoV5apaqV6NUPVFGY6ycigLYvtLsew8KDAj3VXfstPCSjT25ap6JUAezVoa7ACcgZZWJKJJXm03qaEXIFoH-ggb805aZeeqHM5xHv9Zk0Eyhd-zZ19vXJGFFld4eK2vb6vyMGqL83_yoA/w296-h445/IMG_9201.JPG" width="296" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdlbybo854BfUSHby13x1I_O1iCQZZ-BOPUihe72_e_C7KCA-uSYoMlZBCUYB7lEVtIjwsE26gyOHURlVMqM3lF4PBENYJoJNbcZQaKBK_7yMPdyykHxpH-VdT1kNjNHISJ6uVSR6z8XxZMKA0DEw6StPW0Fy3rq0v3ur209lz12DD9Kxu7YbPFr8YiYI/s5184/IMG_9552.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="3456" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdlbybo854BfUSHby13x1I_O1iCQZZ-BOPUihe72_e_C7KCA-uSYoMlZBCUYB7lEVtIjwsE26gyOHURlVMqM3lF4PBENYJoJNbcZQaKBK_7yMPdyykHxpH-VdT1kNjNHISJ6uVSR6z8XxZMKA0DEw6StPW0Fy3rq0v3ur209lz12DD9Kxu7YbPFr8YiYI/w285-h428/IMG_9552.JPG" width="285" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOSRoGc0bphqLZHfcKRycW045TSLl4PMXZ1XyKcxHdknMDvt-qGUHGg1-agXXmtUZQFle_Ai5KXlmDNJslHc19Kp5WHdLB1mUygkXBZFNaWJLKTti0L1rui5Q0pEbOEGKhe9sCB0B2H4JD_C993qC43deTV2qNDcKmIRC91dVMFG0p4nenvBKy8WhLQFY/s5184/Sunrise.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="2882" height="561" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOSRoGc0bphqLZHfcKRycW045TSLl4PMXZ1XyKcxHdknMDvt-qGUHGg1-agXXmtUZQFle_Ai5KXlmDNJslHc19Kp5WHdLB1mUygkXBZFNaWJLKTti0L1rui5Q0pEbOEGKhe9sCB0B2H4JD_C993qC43deTV2qNDcKmIRC91dVMFG0p4nenvBKy8WhLQFY/w312-h561/Sunrise.JPG" width="312" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK52dgFdUuwnAepTMfu5cbHqZB4Ipnv-l1RlhPT_b08L3cAzfaz4_T29_Dkz6qHdvqCl1m01yxfL9amiAE8h4ILULGmkBTbfwhXwA0_S2-fi6T2J7LNK0eUXFXlrSB0a5EoXDv7WXxKhEKH7mg0je7rLj78FwWHafFIWYxKGnAPvhHrBP_CEig_kPrui8/s5184/IMG_9198.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="3456" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK52dgFdUuwnAepTMfu5cbHqZB4Ipnv-l1RlhPT_b08L3cAzfaz4_T29_Dkz6qHdvqCl1m01yxfL9amiAE8h4ILULGmkBTbfwhXwA0_S2-fi6T2J7LNK0eUXFXlrSB0a5EoXDv7WXxKhEKH7mg0je7rLj78FwWHafFIWYxKGnAPvhHrBP_CEig_kPrui8/w321-h482/IMG_9198.JPG" width="321" /></a></div><br /></span><p></p>Nancy Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11189710146812202682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583063779323323750.post-80895542957026375922024-02-09T11:32:00.000-08:002024-02-09T11:32:03.806-08:00Do my horses like to decorate for Valentine's Day?<p><span style="font-size: medium;">I decided to put up a few Valentine's Day decorations, and as usual, the horses saw me in the window and wandered over to "help" me. Did you know it wasn’t until the 10th century that the fork was used at the dinner table? By the 14th century it was common place in Italy. It was proper for a guest to arrive with his own fork and spoon enclosed in a box called a cadena; it also prompted a more refined choice of table linens. By the 18th century, British aristocracy began collecting and displaying their sideboards with the fine cutlery. Improved table manners soon followed and a more elaborate </span></span><span style="font-size: large; white-space-collapse: preserve;">table setting was born.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="white-space-collapse: preserve;"> </span></span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRUxGkJNrDNiVKwLSy34EjGc9bPChvGaZG4YtBqQ_PwSzQ5IVwYOfnr5i_9vzkxK4PNEh6EYabqSznBoesRC8tIz-uY3x9m67Y_eXLIfzrnk8hmTFSDQijFo54-mzdWYsCCVVLD5Gs1OpsiL33KELzL946kUky3GZgBHCCODavh4T0AKQa-jnrZCPuB5U/s5184/IMG_2283.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="5184" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRUxGkJNrDNiVKwLSy34EjGc9bPChvGaZG4YtBqQ_PwSzQ5IVwYOfnr5i_9vzkxK4PNEh6EYabqSznBoesRC8tIz-uY3x9m67Y_eXLIfzrnk8hmTFSDQijFo54-mzdWYsCCVVLD5Gs1OpsiL33KELzL946kUky3GZgBHCCODavh4T0AKQa-jnrZCPuB5U/s320/IMG_2283.JPG" width="320" /></a></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /><span style="white-space-collapse: preserve;">Many of my dishes are found in thrift stores. Every September we purchase over 6 tons of hay to keep our horses well fed during the long Montana winters. This year it was an easy task to accomplish because it's the first year we had feeder bales delivered.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Usually, we loaded small square 40-60 pound bales by hand, stacked them high on our pick up truck, and drove them over 15 miles back to the corral where we then unloaded each one and tried to figure out how to stack them so they would not fall over. Mishaps often occurred, and it took several days, and numerous trips to collect, unload, and secure the hay from the weather and all the wildlife who tried to steal it. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If you want to read about these stories and our other autumn escapes, here is the link to my website and the award winning <i>Go West, Young Woman!</i> series. <a href="http://www.nancyquinnauthor.com" target="_blank">www.nancyquinnauthor.com</a> </span></p>Nancy Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11189710146812202682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583063779323323750.post-81178053603541496872023-09-04T11:16:00.005-07:002023-09-04T11:16:34.155-07:00Writers' Awards 2023<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9ziJo1etTJHOKoB4TffGkSABsUNQZcoPAR26u9K8ZSdgIRuNyrAQT1NbScBuzulX2quuuoVu9_o802bQMwuF0efFn2PWPVqLphRLZRCW6DZvHVvrL_wIshs5N2RfBTTApWIxLld3m6SJGNZ7uvcwDHLk9NrQI9lGROUbE2vcRgoUeCPd7nM5Y81ji7q0/s1280/372666247_6516830158437520_2320495796292515959_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="736" data-original-width="1280" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9ziJo1etTJHOKoB4TffGkSABsUNQZcoPAR26u9K8ZSdgIRuNyrAQT1NbScBuzulX2quuuoVu9_o802bQMwuF0efFn2PWPVqLphRLZRCW6DZvHVvrL_wIshs5N2RfBTTApWIxLld3m6SJGNZ7uvcwDHLk9NrQI9lGROUbE2vcRgoUeCPd7nM5Y81ji7q0/w529-h304/372666247_6516830158437520_2320495796292515959_n.jpg" width="529" /></a></div><br /> <span style="font-size: medium;">A couple of years ago I was invited to be on the cover of Square Petals magazine. From our elevation on the mountain we can see for miles. We currently have fires as close as 40 miles from our home. This time of year they are prevalent and the smoke in the air creates a haze that colors the skies in an unusual way. We often have orange and yellow hues in the sky, but they appear clear and sharp. On smoke filled days, we have a muted, almost filtered, look to the horizon. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: medium;">I wanted to share this wonderful view with you. I find the most beautiful flowers and leaves, and they are irresistible. By the time I come home, my little basket is filled with lovely blooms. </span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: left;">I press them between heavy books, and when they are dry, laminate them and cut the clear sheets into shapes and attach a ribbon. They make beautiful bookmarks for friends, family, and my readers. I often enclose them as gifts with my signed books- as a personal keepsake from our homestead in Montana. Making these bookmarks is a labor of love. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-l_JqdVbhXFMShQU2-XNjuZGgYSCKTNVABUFxP2gSe8PuEk4gGsPH4riwIEbr7VCQrXpRj246I6vLV_aFZj02kHI8Y5RVft82YRPmkH0YetpmjH5YmCEuOjvnDBgfGHqyqrq5dHpXgz0cSukJFgkg5Hsqd7arg26a1iQ9NBVUyp5nEYEeOZGQV0vNWI/s5184/IMG_6097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="5184" height="418" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-l_JqdVbhXFMShQU2-XNjuZGgYSCKTNVABUFxP2gSe8PuEk4gGsPH4riwIEbr7VCQrXpRj246I6vLV_aFZj02kHI8Y5RVft82YRPmkH0YetpmjH5YmCEuOjvnDBgfGHqyqrq5dHpXgz0cSukJFgkg5Hsqd7arg26a1iQ9NBVUyp5nEYEeOZGQV0vNWI/w628-h418/IMG_6097.JPG" width="628" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqCk8-OQg0aRMFUdTWdmACa2D0GcjcoixSWjXd8rwUvQHGo9J7-npeNwYkNHTd3NQCF4etmg2RWQN2tkrymAdC_u69ITh_Nvq9g7maWJdXBHz_Y4ROYLxpnkzp3_8h4q_MZdh42fLM2Jcvnd7Kt1wR3evgqNZOpks6E7eELCaQU5nwQB13lbe4o37XgMc/s3181/IMG_6098%20-%20Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3181" data-original-width="2699" height="606" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqCk8-OQg0aRMFUdTWdmACa2D0GcjcoixSWjXd8rwUvQHGo9J7-npeNwYkNHTd3NQCF4etmg2RWQN2tkrymAdC_u69ITh_Nvq9g7maWJdXBHz_Y4ROYLxpnkzp3_8h4q_MZdh42fLM2Jcvnd7Kt1wR3evgqNZOpks6E7eELCaQU5nwQB13lbe4o37XgMc/w516-h606/IMG_6098%20-%20Copy.JPG" width="516" /></a></div><p><br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"> To find out more about my work and mountain life visit:</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.nancyquinnauthor.com" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: large;">www.nancyquinnauthor.com</span></a></p>Nancy Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11189710146812202682noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583063779323323750.post-35918946863212561112023-06-24T09:17:00.001-07:002023-06-24T09:17:16.365-07:00New Book Coming in September!<p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3jrO-njCPbo5fB2WnPN17z5_wlA2g7DIjMGWXTTZxGJxIUh5ZA4392bSN97U08CkHoYCVeDelyhq7oipt5agIe0d5NewGqvfmubrHU-RbULJpwrtVQ5Ah3QAG1HYED8dF_lqnmW6SbOTxcfWuD1zKbrEXbp5SI3MyViqQMpYU7iEHgGo1-NzSgbjUI58/s1077/turn%20the%20page%20Jpeg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="719" data-original-width="1077" height="415" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3jrO-njCPbo5fB2WnPN17z5_wlA2g7DIjMGWXTTZxGJxIUh5ZA4392bSN97U08CkHoYCVeDelyhq7oipt5agIe0d5NewGqvfmubrHU-RbULJpwrtVQ5Ah3QAG1HYED8dF_lqnmW6SbOTxcfWuD1zKbrEXbp5SI3MyViqQMpYU7iEHgGo1-NzSgbjUI58/w619-h415/turn%20the%20page%20Jpeg.jpg" width="619" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: purple; font-size: 21px;">I'm so excited to share this good news with you!</span></p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: purple; font-size: 21px;">My new book is currently in production and I will keep you updated as to when it will be available.
